Meet the Staff

Alice Jakubiak

Alice Jakubiak, Veterinary Assistant, has worked with Leland Veterinary Clinic since 1997. She graduated from Jacksonville State University with a 4-year degree in Computer Science, but put that aside to work with animals. She spent fifteen years in the Army where she completed the Veterinary Assistant course from the Professional Career Development Institute with superior scores. Alice enjoys landscaping, woodworking, painting ceramics and playing games on the computer. She has 15 cats (one blind, one deaf, and one with only one eye) and an 80-pound dog. She has always been interested in caring for animals and is especially devoted to their welfare.

Barbara Harkins

Barbara Harkins, Veterinary Assistant, has worked with Leland Veterinary Clinic since 2001. She is a graduate of Auburn University and has worked with various humane societies around the area. Barbara loves spending her spare time with her husband and her daughter. She has two dogs, Cora and Angel, and two cats, Frances and Martha (all of which she rescued). Her devotion to the animals' health and comfort is indicative of her caring, friendly and helpful nature. Barbara has a gift for being able to comfort owners of critically ill patients so they can make the best decisions for their pets and then will support their decisions with compassion and understanding.

Lisa Goodman

Lisa Goodman, Receptionist joined the Leland Veterinary Clinic family in September 2007. Lisa brings with her business experience and most important a love of animals. Lisa completed a course in Animal Care Specialist and Kennel Management from Professional Career Development Institute. In her spare time, Lisa can be found caring for her 12 year old dog, a snow white mix name KK. Lisa rescued her huggable from a local highway, and often refers to him as “Nana” because he is almost always looking after her too. Lisa looks forward to many happy years working with the talented, articulate and sincere staff of Leland Veterinary Clinic which offers exceptional care for their animal friends and their families.

Tiffany Wright

Tiffany Wright, Receptionist began working with Leland Veterinary Clinic in June 2007. She has experience in the hospitality field and enjoys working with people. Helping people take care of their four-legged family members has been, and continues to be a rewarding experience. Tiffany lives in Atlanta with her son Steven and her little miniature Chihuahua, Scooby. They enjoy going to the park together, watching movies and playing games. Tiffany’s work at the clinic has given her the opportunity to help clients and their beloved animals, learn from the most excellent doctors, and join together with associates of highest proficiency.

Lisa Jones

Lisa Jones, Groomer, has been with the Leland Veterinary Clinic since 2002. Before coming to Leland she worked at PetSmart and has been grooming dogs for six years. She enjoys walking, reading, has been a Girl Scout leader for four years, and is on the Children/Youth Planning Committee at her church. She is married with a small daughter named Faith, who helps Mom care for her two dogs and three cats. Lisa is a perfectionist when it comes to her grooming and recently has added shaving cats to her repertoire. She takes the time to make sure the client is delighted with her results, and has learned, working with the pets she handles, that patience is not only a virtue but also a must.

Travis

Travis, Clinic Cat, has been with the Leland Veterinary Clinic for almost two years. He was found on the side of the road by Cobb County Animal Control and brought to Leland because of a large boo-boo on his shoulder. Dr. C doctored him and he decided to stay. He enjoys sleeping on the counter, in his condo under the counter, in his new bed in the storeroom, actually he enjoys sleeping anywhere. He is very supportive of the cats coming into the clinic, however, mostly ignores the dogs. Travis is very aware of owners that come in with critically ill animals and will sit next to them and give them his sympathy. He lives with a clinic full of women, but actually prefers men. Although he doesn't work, per se, nor does he pay the bills, he still considers himself an owner. He will check out the activities in the treatment room, sit on the counter in the pharmacy and watch the prescriptions being filled, and never misses joining the staff at lunch. We have had many offers for Travis, to either trade or just give him a new home, but we would all be lost without him.

Joey

Joey, Junior Clinic Cat and Entertainment Committee, has been with us almost a year.  Around Christmas 2005, he was rescued from Wal-Mart and decided Travis needed a friend and chose to live with us.  Joey loves everybody - dogs, cats, ladies, men, boys or girls, it doesn’t matter he will visit them all, sit next to them or if they stay long enough will actually edge into their lap and go to sleep.  He loves to play with the children and entertains them while the doctor is caring for their four legged brothers or sisters.  He is particularly fond of the ladies purses and will try to crawl into them if given the chance.  He inspects all cat carriers and lets the kitties know that Leland is an excellent place to be, and at times will join them in the examining room.  He has decided that Travis is his brother, that he is also part owner of the clinic, can sleep wherever he lays his head and joins the crew at lunch.  Joey has truly become an asset to the clinic and has melted the hearts of many.

Nicholas

Nicholas, here with Barbara, is our Treatment Area Comforter. Nick came to us at Christmas time 2006, hence the name “Nicholas”. He was found at a construction site and had obviously been attacked by a hawk. Dr Carreker began immediately to “put him back together”, which in itself was touch and go. He came through and everyone fell in love with the little cat that is only half the size of normal cats his age. He is still anxious around people he doesn’t know and spends his time during the day in the Treatment Area where he loves to keep watch on the patients coming out of anesthesia and visit the patients waiting for their turn. He wrestles with Joey while Travis watches the “children” play but has become their brother. The sight of him warms your heart and comforts both the patients and all his “Moms”.
